The police has not committed any error in lodging the F.I.R. without conducting any preliminary enquiry. As per provision of Section 154(1) of Cr.P.C., registration of first information report (FIR) is mandatory for the police if the information discloses commission of any cognizable offence. A police officer who comes to know about a cognizable offence can file an FIR himself/herself.
